Argonaut - The Kinetic

David Constantine was normal, human. Keyword: was. Suddenly thrust into a ten-thousand year war between two races he never even knew existed as the final gear in an ultimate weapon you could say his life has become a bit more interesting. Considerable power of his own is a bonus, though when you have enemies of this caliber it's kind of a necessity. Add a dash of revenge, a squeeze of deceit and just a pinch of sarcasm and viola, you have a Kinetic. You have David. Welcome to Valhalla.

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

I'm 17 and from Australia, going to Uni next year and enjoying the last bit of high school.

2. What types of books do you write?

Mostly Action/Adventures, though Sci-Fi does interest me greatly.

3. How many books have you written?

Argonaut - was the first one I ever continued with beyond a few pages, and i'm glad I did.

4. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

The Desolation of Smaug definitely.

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

Action/Sci-Fi mostly, but Fantasy is a nice change of pace.

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

A GPS, A helicopter and a manual to learn how to fly said helicopter.

7. Are you considering a sequel?

Definitely, there's one in the works right now.

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

Well when we were little my father would ground us and send us to our rooms quite a bit. Since there was nothing else to do we read, and quickly became addicted. I just never stopped.

Excerpt

“Pathetic” he muttered, stamping his boot down in my unarmoured hand, “Even you have to be able to do better than this.” He batted away my arm as he reached forward, laying his palm on my forehead. Almost instantly the burning began again. Then in a low voice that only I could hear he whispered “do you still hear her screaming Atlas? The Archons told us everything; how you just let her die.”

I roared in fury as I sent out a powerful shockwave, ignoring the agony in my head. Balian flew off me, landing in a heap after a few seconds flight. As we both stood up his face paled, realising what he had provoked.

Using my power I flicked him into the air, holding him there while I peeled the armour off him like a tin can. The broken pieces of his armour fell like rain as I dropped him to the ground in just his under suit, in vain he tried to back up; I held him in place as the killing rage took over.

“You have no idea what I’m capable of” I muttered as I walked towards him. Holding up my bare hand blue lightning crackled along my fingertips; generated purely from the energy I controlled. As he tried to shout out I closed his mouth, looking at him with hatred.

Shooting my hand forward a continuous stream of the pure lightning lanced forward and struck the unarmoured Reaver, I could hear him try to scream as I still held his mouth closed.

‘Stop it David!’ Serena’s voice called out pleadingly, ‘you’re going too far!’

But it was too late; the rage had taken me and I would not be deterred so easily.

“Do not interfere” I snarled, holding up my hand in a claw.

At once every Archaean in the arena was raised from the ground, clutching at their throats. Only now did I let Balian speak.

“What the hell are you?” he whimpered, still rooted to the spot.

“I’m not quite sure” I snarled back, “but I’d like to find out.”

Yes, Master

In England, Rosalie works as a maid for a high-society family to support her poor family. Treated cruelly by her mistress, Rosalie slaves away day after day, wishing for an easier life.  She is surprised when a way out comes in the form of a proposition from her mistress's handsome son.

Excerpt

I scurry in, keeping my head bowed. His mother is shouting commands at me, her blue skirts swirling around her like sea spray. She twists this way and that, pointing and making demands. "Oh, do clean the windows. You've let them get awfully dirty," she says in an accusatory tone, as if to say I haven't been working hard enough. I peek out meekly from beneath my stringy hair. I've been staying late at work and haven't had the time to wash.

"Yes, I will get right to it," I squeak. "Don't say! Do!" she yells, her alabaster face turning red with rage.

I hurry over to get the pail, soap, and washrag, and set to work. I'm sponging down the stained glass windows, my arms aching, when he comes in. He, being my mistress's son. He, being the boy who is the handsomest boy in the country, quite possibly the world. He, who all the girls titter about at the balls and parties. He, who I am hopelessly and utterly in love with, though I myself don't even get why. He paces around the room, his eyes lowered, muttering something to himself. I continue my work, pretending I don't notice him. Pretending I'm not listening to whatever he's saying. Pretending I'm not noticing the way the sun hits his hair, turning it an almost preternatural shade of gold.

All of a sudden, he straightens and says my name. "Rosalie," he says, the name sounding so beautiful as it rolls off his tongue.

At the sound of my name, I immediately stop my work,  surprised. He rarely talks to me, except to tell me what's expected of him and me at parties and the occasional shallow chat when no one is around.

BOTM - Wingless by Cydney Lawson

Wingless

Charlie is in serious hot water.

After a naked girl falls from the sky, lands on his lawn, and claims to be from heaven, his entire summer is flipped upside-down. This girl can talk to animals, fight like a ninja, and hear people's thoughts. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she's got the most gorgeous blue eyes this side of the equator and skin as soft as goose down. But she is on earth for one reason and one reason only: to save a lost soul left behind on the wrong plane.

Charlie agrees to help her, but when her jealous partner shows up to speed up the process, things get tense for all of them. Can Charlie let go of the one thing that has ever made him feel worthwhile? And more importantly, does she feel the same?

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

I’m a 21 year old English major from Georgia. I’ve got bigger plans than a super villain and more books than Belle. But other than that I’m alarmingly normal. I wouldn’t stick out in a crowd and I like it that way, to be honest.

2. What types of books do you write?

I write a wide variety of things in the Young Adult spectrum. I write books that would fit in the paranormal, the fantasy, the romance, the suspense, and the contemporary. It really just depends on how good an idea is and if it can keep my interest.

3. How many books have you written?

I’ve started over a dozen and finished about five.

4. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

It’s a combination, actually, a movie based on a book. I’m really looking forward to Catching Fire. I can’t stand how excited I am about it!

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

Anything that makes me feel something.

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

1.) A magical book that turns into whatever I want to read
2.) A house with central air conditioning and electricity
3.) A magical portal off the island (a portkey off the island is also acceptable).

7. Are you considering a sequel?

I’ve already finished the sequel. Both are published in hardback and kindle and e-book versions of themselves just waiting to be read by you!

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

My grandfather. Wonderful person. Even better father.

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

Yo! My name is Ira, I'm 18 but people usually mistake me for a 14 or 15 because of my height and face. I'm 4'8" and my weight never went over 90 pound because if I eat more than I usually do I will vomit. I was born in Malaysia and a proud Muslim. English is my second language. It was a challenge for me to write a story in English mostly because in my country we use a mixture of British and American English, usually more British but I will break it down someday! I like watching anime, Jdrama and a little bit of JPop and JRock. Japanese is the next language I like to conquer after English.

2. What types of books do you write?

Romance and Fantasy and also trying to write a humour. I'm a hopeless romantic although I never really experience love. Believe it or not, I never had a boyfriend.

3. How many books have you written?

3 books but never finish it mostly because of my bad procrastinate habit. The first one started when I was 14 but I never post it only my close friends read it. Hopefully I can finish Perfectly Imperfect because it was all plan out in my head but I never really had the time to write it yet. I have written a lot of short stories.

4. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

For a movie, I'm aching for 47 Ronin to come out just because my favourite singer/actor in it. For a book, there is too many I'm looking forward to read.

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

I prefer romance, fantasy and humour. I love it when the couple had some hardship, a really bad one that made your heart squeeze in a painful way then boom! They solve it and end up together.

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

1. A camping kit. Even though, I can't build a tent but at least I can try.
2. A knife. Even if there is one in the camping kit.
3. A writing kit. So that I can write to prevent sanity left me.

7. Are you considering a sequel?

Depends. If I only get a few reader I might not make a sequel but if I make it, the main character won't be the same but they still make appearance in the book.

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

I always love reading since the day I started learning to read. I used to read under the table when the teacher was teaching because I easily get bored (I used to sit at the back so it was easy for me consider there was almost 40 students in my class), that was when I'm in elementary school. When I started high school, there was no more than 25 students in class, so it was hard to read in class. Then I started to come out with a possible ending for the book that I was currently reading (while in class). Before realizing it, I already change the story my way that almost 100% different than the original one.

Excerpt

Pain.

The only word I could think of but the word didn't even do me any justice for what I'm feeling at the moment. It was indescribable.

Hurt

Betrayal.

Hatred.

Words that never left my mind nor my body. It felt like a dagger was shove in me that tore my inside from below. Beautiful was the word that never crossed my mind when it happen, hell not even one positive word made it way to my mind. Love was way far from it. It was funny consider he claimed to be totally 'in love' with me.

I never felt so disappointed in myself. I was so ashamed to myself that I let it happen. I know it wasn't entirely  my fault but it was me that trigger it. He even said so himself.

The tingles in my fingers and toes made me realized the drug has finally ran out my system. I tried to lift my fingers to get the feel again but failed to do so. I guess it hasn't ran out yet. I gave up after a few more tried and just lied there. I stared blankly at the door in front of me.

The pain was too much, I decided to focus on the sound around me. The only sound I heard were the water from the bathroom behind me. Tears swelled up inside, stuck in my throat but I made sure it didn't get through. I won't let them, not now maybe not ever.

The sound of water's stop made me froze. My sense at their perk, trying to catch any sound but it was dead silent. My body tense when the sound of the bathroom door was heard. Footsteps made its way to me, louder and louder.

When it finally stop, I felt a present of someone standing behind me. The bed dipped behind me, making me flinched. His presence was getting closer and closer. Until I could feel his warmed breath burning my ears. I tried with all my might to stop trembling the moment he touched my hair and pushed them aside, exposing my ear.

"Thanks darling and don't forget, this is our dirty little secret." He whispered.

My body jerk and automatically my eyes shut tight.

"Aww... Don't be like that darling," I flinched at the word 'darling', "You asked for this, I've no choice." He finished and a dark chuckled left his mouth.

He got up and the sound of the door opened and closed indicating he had left the room made my body relax a bit but not fully, maybe never would.

It felt like eternity when I finally opened my eyes and convinced myself that I'm really alone. I swallowed my tears and got up with trembling legs. It was a wonder that I made it to the bathroom. I looked at my reflection through the mirror.

The moment I did, made me thrown up. The image of what happen less than two hours ago had burned in my mind and decided to repeat itself over and over. After I successfully empty my stomach, I made my way to the mirror again. I didn't puke this time consider I already had nothing occupied my stomach but most of it because I accomplished to block the image from my mind.

I still looked the same only my eyes looked a bit different but I couldn't put my finger on it. I didn't realised then, that I would never looked at the world the same way. I took a deep breath to control my tears that was threatening to get out but I would never let them maybe not ever. Tears meant weakness. That was the only thing I would never displayed again. Never again.

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

Hello everyone! My name is Autre, although that’s just my online name since I’m not really comfortable revealing my real name. I like watching anime, eating sweets, and plush toys. I like to roleplay but school is always a top priority! My future goal is to become a doctor and I become writer somewhere along my journey, then that would be a welcome bonus.

2. What types of books do you write?

I used to write books about the apocalypse but I found out that a lot of my readers couldn’t feel or relate to my story so I changed my genre to fantasy, and by some stroke of luck, here I am! BOTW Author’s Spotlight!

3. How many books have you written?

Overall, I’ve done two. Hoping to do more.

4. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

As far as movies are concerned, I go with the flow. If my friends think this movie is great then I go for it. With books, I’m not very picky. I’d spend time in the bookstore reading the first chapter of every book I find interesting and just buy which one I like the most.

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

I prefer horror books, but I’ll take a swing on romance sometimes (heck, I’ve even read twilight) and maybe sci-fi

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you

want with you?

Knife. Rope. Matches. All of them are multipurpose and can guarantee survival for few days at least… They can also be used to kill me should I lose all hope.

7. Are you considering a sequel?

Depends. If I don’t get to at least 700 reads by the end of the book, then probably not. But I’ll let you in a secret: My plans for Autre Domaine go beyond 5 books! So if I get lucky, you can expect 5 sequels.

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

Voices in my head. Kidding. I have a lot of crazy ideas that’s going on inside my head, so I had to find a way to express myself and I thought hey! Why not try writing! It’s been pretty fun so far, when I first thought of Autre Domaine, the only thing I can ever picture was an angel fighting a devil and I just started adding words to make a story out of it.

Excerpt

Blood splattered all over the battlefield as the Juggernaut slaughtered her way through every single devil soldier with her laser sword, leaving trails of light each swing.

Smoke fumed out of the corpses as she decapitated them all in half.

“Prepare the cannons!”

Soldiers lined up a few meters in front of the Juggernaut and readied the cannons.

“Ready, aim, FIRE!”

Dark energy started gathering at the tip of the cannons and the generators glowed brightly as it spits out a large balls of darkness.

Cannon balls came rushing towards the angel in the middle of the field, undaunted; she raised her hand and casts a spell.

“<<Code Cast: Himmel Schützen>> “

A checkered pattern of light flashed in the shape of a giant cross before solidifying, blocking the barrage of the devil’s cannon balls.

“This is crazy, there’s hundreds of us and only one of her! How come we can’t even scratch her?”

Fear shook the atmosphere, as the Juggernaut moved closer. Each step filled with the ominous aura of death.

<<Code Cast: Dash>>

Her boots glowed for a split second before her speed increased dramatically. She sliced and diced every devil that stood in her path and in a matter of seconds; she was now in front of the cannons.

A devil fell down on his knees with shock. Both of them are soldiers, gone through the same training, endured the same hardships and yet she was far superior.

What motivated her to become this strong?

While the soldier pondered the answers to his questions, Juggernaut drew another hilt from her waist as another laser blade emerged from it.
